The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said Pakistan will participate in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 as scheduled, while also pursuing a protest formally internationally.

The statement followed PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where he said the matter was being addressed at the highest level.

Naqvi described the meeting as productive, saying he briefed the prime minister on the ICC issue and was advised to keep all options open nationally.

He added that both sides agreed a final decision would be taken either on Friday or next Monday after further consultations at senior political levels.

The controversy intensified after concerns in Pakistan over what the PCB called inconsistent rule application following Bangladesh’s removal due to security concerns about travel arrangements.

Officials have highlighted a previous ICC event where India did not travel to Pakistan and was accommodated through an alternative arrangement approved by ICC authorities.

Sources said the board has been weighing sporting and financial implications, including participation revenues and the wider commercial impact of marquee fixtures for future tournaments.

Naqvi is expected to hold a press conference to outline the PCB’s position and announce its final stance within the stated timeline publicly and formally.
