Islamabad United have unexpectedly released West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph less than 24 hours after confirming his signing for the Pakistan Super League 2026 (PSL 11) season.

The franchise initially announced Joseph’s acquisition during the PSL 11 player auction for a reported Rs. 1.10 crore, aiming to bolster their pace attack and add international experience to the bowling lineup.

Hours after the announcement, Islamabad United deleted their social media post, drawing attention to the swift reversal and prompting widespread questions among fans and cricket observers across Pakistan.

The team has not provided any detailed explanation for the release, with officials only removing the confirmation post without offering further public comments regarding the sudden decision.

Joseph has faced serious allegations in June 2025, including rape, sexual assault, harassment, and unwanted advances, reportedly involving at least 11 women, including a teenage relative, according to media reports from Guyana.

Regional Caribbean media initially covered the allegations, which were later reported internationally; however, none of the accusations have yet led to formal criminal charges against the cricketer.

On the field, Joseph earned international attention with high-speed bowling performances, particularly in the Test match at the Gabba against Australia, where he claimed key wickets and bowled at express pace.

His rise in international cricket attracted interest from multiple T20 franchises worldwide, ultimately leading to his selection in the PSL 11 auction before Islamabad United’s sudden release decision.

Islamabad United were active participants in the league’s first full auction-based system, retaining stars like Shadab Khan, Salman Irshad, and Andries Gous, while also signing marquee players such as Faheem Ashraf for Rs. 8.50 crore.
