The Cabinet has directed that PTV sports should pay US$500,000 to Indian broadcaster Sony Picture Network in order to default and ensure live streaming of Pakistan Cricket team tour of the United Kingdom.
At present, the Pakistani team is on tour to the UK.
The Prime minister had to direct pay to avoid default in order for PTV sports live to stream. At present, PTV sports broadcast the live streaming of Pakistan cricket matches.
Since the transaction has already been completed, the Cabinet directed the Information and Broadcasting Division that PTVC clear the pending payment of US$ 500,000 in lieu of the right of Pakistan Cricket Team’s previous tour of the United Kingdom in 2020 to Sony Picture Network (SPNI), in order to avoid default and ensure uninterrupted broadcast of the upcoming Pakistan Cricket Team tour of the United Kingdom.

At the onset, Minister for Information and Broadcasting drew attention to PTVC’s outstanding payment to Sony Pictures Network (SPNI), which would threaten the coverage of Pakistan’s upcoming tour of the United Kingdom.
Despite the Cabinet’s decision, the situation remained unresolved due to differing interpretations of the Cabinet decision by the Commerce Division in relation to the State Bank of Pakistan.
The Cabinet directed the ministry of information and broadcasting to handle the issue as soon as possible by paying the outstanding balance owed to SPNI.

The Information and Broadcasting Division informed the Cabinet that Pakistan Television Corporation (PTVC) is now a national broadcaster. Its primary goal was to give the people of Pakistan credible and accurate information, education, and entertainment.
It boasts a network of satellite channels that people watched people from all walks of life.
PTV Sports is one of Pakistan Television Corporation’s most popular sports and revenue-generating networks. It acquires worldwide and live sports broadcasting and streaming rights and content from foreign companies.
Meanwhile, Indian broadcasters held the majority of live content rights in South Asia. As a result, sublicensing the rights for the relevant territory from these parent broadcasters became unavoidable for PTV Sports.
Moreover, the Federal Government imposed an embargo on trade with India and Indian firms, as the Ministry of Commerce announced in S.R.O.902(1)/2020, dated September 25, 2020.
As a result of the ban in the Import Policy Order, PTVC was having difficulty securing broadcasting rights from Indian corporations and paying them.
