Punjab Govt Approves Monthly Stipend for Imams

The Punjab government has approved a monthly stipend for imams serving in 65,000 mosques across the province to enhance their financial stability and dignity.

The decision was finalized during the fifth consecutive law and order meeting, which was chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in Lahore on Monday.

Addressing the meeting, CM Maryam emphasized that imams play a vital role in society and must be treated with respect and financial security.

She highlighted that ensuring financial support for imams is both a moral and administrative duty of the provincial government, requiring consistent commitment.

The chief minister said it was inappropriate to depend on public donations for imam salaries, as the state must take full responsibility for their welfare.

The new initiative will provide sustainable financial assistance to mosque leaders serving in both rural and urban areas across Punjab under government supervision.

The provincial cabinet also approved the inclusion of mosque construction and renovation projects in the Annual Development Programme to improve religious infrastructure.

Maryam Nawaz directed all concerned departments to ensure timely completion of these mosque-related projects for community benefit and spiritual development across Punjab.

She remarked that mosques function not only as places of worship but also as social hubs fostering unity, education, and collective community well-being.

Meanwhile, under the directives of CM Maryam, roads leading to the Raiwind Tableeghi Ijtima have been upgraded to accommodate visitors and participants.

A dedicated bus service will operate during the Ijtima to facilitate attendees, while strict security measures will ensure safety throughout the religious gathering.

The meeting also gave initial approval for establishing a cybercrime cell in Punjab to strengthen digital security and improve the province’s online law enforcement.

Maryam Nawaz instructed authorities to take firm action against illegal use of loudspeakers, emphasizing public order and compliance with provincial regulatory laws.
