Punjab Schools Ban Sticks Amid Rising Student Violence

Reports of physical violence against students are on the rise in Punjab, prompting the School Education Department to implement a strict ban on keeping sticks on campus.

According to media reports, officials say the move aims to curb corporal punishment and create a safer learning environment accross the province.

As per the official data, more than 70 cases of corporal punishment were reported during the 2024-25. This year alone, over 81 incidents have already been recorded.

Despite multiple resolutions submitted in the Punjab provincial assembly, no concrete legislation has been passed to effectively address the issue.

Education authorities have directed that strict action will be taken against any teacher found possessing or using sticks within schools.

In cases of severe violence, First Information Report (FIR) will be registered against the responsible teachers, officials added.

At Government High School Kareem Block, students reportedly continue to face punishments, such as being hit for arriving late.

Meanwhile, the Lahore Education Authority has yet to issue a clear response regarding these ongoing violations.
