Punjab Sets Jail, Fine for Sharing Exam Papers Online

The Punjab education boards have issued a stringent warning regarding the sharing of examination question papers on social media platforms. This announcement comes ahead of the upcoming annual examinations in the province.
According to official notifications, posting or forwarding objective or subjective exam papers on platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, or X (formerly Twitter), whether during or after exam timings, will be considered a criminal offence. This includes any attempt to capture exam content using mobile phones or other electronic devices inside examination centres.
The directive strictly prohibits taking photos, recording videos, or digitally transmitting any examination content. Doing so will be treated as deliberate interference in the examination process.
The action falls under the Punjab University and Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education Malpractices Act, 1950. Under this law, individuals found leaking or distributing examination materials related to upcoming or ongoing papers can face imprisonment for up to three years along with a fine of up to Rs. 50,000.
Boards have also established a zero-tolerance policy concerning mobile phone usage inside exam centres, and authorities will enforce strict monitoring during exam days. Examination staff have been directed to remain vigilant, with district administrations and law enforcement agencies providing support to ensure compliance.

Students, parents, and invigilators are advised to refrain from engaging in or encouraging any illegal activities related to exam papers. Violations will result in immediate legal action without exception.
This move aims to uphold the integrity of the examination process and deter malpractice in Punjab’s education system.
