Punjab Sets Winter Vacation Dates for Schools

The Punjab government has finalized the 2025 winter holidays schedule for all public and private educational institutions across the province.

According to the Education Department, schools will close for winter break from December 23, 2025, to January 10, 2026, with regular classes resuming on January 13, 2026.

The notification confirms that the holiday schedule will apply uniformly to both government and private schools.

The announcement comes as authorities continue efforts to tackle the worsening air pollution gripping major cities, including Lahore.

To reduce exposure to smog and traffic-related emissions, the government has already revised school timings across Punjab.

Under the new schedule, effective from November 3, 2025, all educational institutions must open no earlier than 8:45 a.m.

The restriction, enforced by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), will remain in effect until January 31, 2026.

EPA Director General Dr. Imran Hameed Sheikh said the decision aims to curb vehicular emissions that spike during early school hours.

“By delaying opening times, we expect to ease morning congestion and improve air quality,” he explained.

Authorities have warned that schools violating the directive may face penalties between Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 1 million, depending on the extent of non-compliance.
