Quetta Internet Blocked Amid Rising Security Concerns

The Balochistan government has ordered a 24-hour suspension of 3G and 4G mobile data services in Quetta district today due to growing concerns over public security.

In a letter dated October 30 to the Ministry of Interior, authorities requested that internet services in Quetta be blocked on October 31 due to law and order threats.

The official communication noted that the “peculiar law and order situation and threat perceptions” made it necessary to temporarily jam mobile data services throughout the district.

Security officials have observed a significant rise in militant activity in Balochistan, with insurgents increasing both the frequency and intensity of attacks across multiple areas of the province.

This suspension comes after a similar decision in August, when mobile internet services were halted for security purposes but were restored by the Balochistan High Court 16 days later.

Experts have warned that repeated internet shutdowns have serious economic consequences, with Pakistan reportedly losing $1.62 billion last year due to outages.
