The holy month of Ramadan is expected to commence in Pakistan on Thursday, February 19, 2026, following the sighting of the crescent moon on the evening of Wednesday, February 18. This announcement comes after moon sighting committees reviewed reports from across the country and confirmed the visibility of the Ramadan moon, marking the completion of 30 days of the month of Sha’ban.
As a result, the first fast (roza) will be observed on February 19, and Taraweeh prayers are anticipated to begin in mosques nationwide from the night of February 18. Ramadan holds significant religious importance for Muslims, who observe fasting from dawn to sunset, engage in additional prayers, and increase charitable activities during this month.Sochi World Youth Festival: A Beacon of International Cooperation
In Pakistan, Ramadan brings noticeable changes to daily life, including extended market hours, family gatherings for iftar, and increased attendance at mosques. The country follows the lunar calendar, with the start of Islamic months determined by moon sightings. Although astronomical forecasts had suggested a possible earlier start, the final decision depends on the moon sighting committees.
In preparation for Ramadan, local authorities are expected to issue notifications regarding market timings, monitor prices of essential food items, and manage traffic arrangements near mosques and bazaars to accommodate the increased activity during the holy month.
