Rohi out, Rizwan in for chairman SNGPL

Islamabad: The Cabinet has turned down a nomination of Rohi R.Khan and approved the nomination of Rizwan-Ullah Khan for possible chair of the board of Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL).
Sources told Newztodays.com that advisor to Prime Minister on Petroleum Nadeem Babar did not back Roohi Khan and rather recommended Rizwan-Ullah Khan for possible chair of SNGPL board.
The Petroleum Division had proposed two names who include Roohi R Khan and Rizwan-Ullah khan for the possible chair of the board of directors of SNGPL. However, the cabinet turned down the nomination of Roohi R Khan to elect as chairman board of directors of SNGPL.
Roohi R Khan has been performing her duties as chairperson of the SNGPL board during her last tenure. The new board of directors of SNGPL has been elected and now the board would elect its chairman.
Earlier, the cabinet had approved nominations of eleven candidates to participate in the election of the board of directors of Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL).
The government had already managed to reduce the board of directors from 14 to 12 which means that private members would face tough competition to get a seat at the board of directors of SNGPL.
Petroleum Division played two cards to reduce the number of directors from the private sector at the board of SNPGL. First, the number of directors was reduced, and secondly, the government opted to contest election to show door to the private members from the board.
Now, the board of SNGPL has been dominated by the government directors that is against the spirit of public listed companies. The idea of public listed companies was to make a representation of the private sector on boards for innovation in the companies.
The government holds 57.96 percent of shareholdings in SNGPL. The board had expired on June 20, 2020. However, elections were delayed due to the stay order given by the court.
