The committee directed the concerned ministry to seal all factories that are still manufacturing plastic bags and to provide a list of shops and factories that have been fined for violating environmental laws.
Furthermore, the committee instructed the Director General of the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) to take strict action against shops using polythene bags.
This step, in line with the committee’s efforts, will help reduce the amount of plastic waste produced in the country.
The committee also emphasized the need to launch a publicity awareness campaign regarding the responsible usage of plastic bags on electronic and print media.
The committee commended the support and commitment of the DIG Police Islamabad in addressing environmental challenges.
However, the committee expressed displeasure over the absence of the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Secretary of the Ministry of Law in the meeting. It directed both officers to ensure their personal attendance in the next meeting, along with all relevant officers, to discuss environmental issues.
Additionally, the committee took serious note of the lack of cooperation among different governmental departments dealing with climate change issues. It directed the development of a comprehensive procedure to ensure strong interdepartmental coordination in tackling climate-related issues.
