Sindh’s Faiz X-1 Oil and Gas Well Revived After 12 Years

Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has successfully restarted production at the Faiz X-1 oil and gas well in Ghambat, Sindh, after it was sealed for 12 years. The well had been shut down since 2014 due to insufficient infrastructure that made commercial extraction unviable.

According to a statement officially submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the revival enables the well to produce 3.6 million cubic feet of gas daily. This marks a significant development for Pakistan’s energy sector, as the well was revived without the need for entirely new processing infrastructure.

Engineers used state-of-the-art technology to isolate and manage the complex underground zones of the well, overcoming technical challenges that had previously impeded operations. A feeder pipeline stretching 4.5 kilometers was also built to connect Faiz X-1 to existing pipeline networks of neighboring operational wells. This linkage ensures seamless integration with Pakistan’s larger gas transmission and distribution infrastructure.

In addition to natural gas, Faiz X-1 is producing 750 barrels of light crude oil every day. This is the first occasion that oil extraction has been recorded from this well, broadening its contribution to the province’s hydrocarbon output.

Production at the well officially resumed on February 25, 2026, with output being gradually increased following a carefully planned phase-wise approach. The revival of Faiz X-1 is viewed as a positive step towards enhancing domestic energy supplies amid growing demand.

Pakistan Petroleum Limited’s efforts in reviving previously sealed wells demonstrate the potential of modern technology and strategic infrastructure investment in revitalizing aging assets. This success may encourage further initiatives to rehabilitate other non-producing wells in the country, thereby optimizing energy resource utilization.
