Wholesale sugar prices have dropped sharply across Pakistan following strict government action against hoarding, speculation, and artificial price hikes.

This has provided relief to markets and consumers. The impact is most noticeable in major trading hubs, especially Karachi and Punjab.

In Karachi, wholesale sugar prices fell from Rs200 to Rs150 per kilogram, with further decline to Rs146 reported.

As per the media reports, Punjab has experienced a similar trend, with wholesale sugar prices falling to Rs145 per kilogram.

Abdul Rauf Ibrahim, Wholesale Grocers Association chairperson, said government actions were crucial in stabilising the market and preventing profiteering.

Ibrahim added that forward sugar deals are now being booked at Rs135 per kilogram, suggesting further price reductions in the coming weeks.

Traders attributed the price drop to ample sugar stocks across the country, including around 150,000 tonnes of imported sugar in warehouses.

Market participants said continued government oversight, strict action against hoarders, and regular crushing operations would ensure stable sugar prices.
