Zara Noor Abbas Addresses Weight Shaming of Women

Zara Noor Abbas, a renowned Pakistani TV and film actress, recently spoke out against the issue of weight shaming women often face in society. Known for her strong performances in popular dramas like Khamoshi, Ehd-e-Wafa, and Phaans, Zara took to the podcast Moms The Word, hosted by Aisha Yousaf, to share her views on this sensitive topic.

During the conversation, Zara condemned the intrusive and insensitive comments made about women’s bodies, emphasizing the incredible strength women possess. “I always give a shut-up call to people who troll women over their weight or comment on their body,” she remarked. Zara highlighted that the human body, especially that of women, undergoes changes due to the miraculous process of childbirth, which should be respected rather than criticized.

She expressed frustration that despite the progress women have made in various fields—including scientific achievements like reaching the moon—the focus remains on physical appearance and weight. This societal fixation, Zara pointed out, is outdated and harmful.

Adding a personal anecdote, the actress recounted an incident where a shopkeeper made an inappropriate remark about her weight while she was buying ice cream. Her husband, actor Asad Siddiqui, intervened and sent the shopkeeper back with a clear message against such behavior, demonstrating their stand against body shaming.

Zara Noor Abbas enjoys a significant following on social media, with over 6.7 million followers on Instagram, where she often shares glimpses of her personal life and work. She is married to fellow actor Asad Siddiqui, and together they have a daughter. Her recent work includes a praised performance in the television drama Dil Dhoondta Hai Phir Wohi on Express TV.

Zara’s candid discussion about weight shaming comes at a time when conversations about body positivity and mental health are gaining momentum in Pakistan’s entertainment industry. Her remarks highlight the importance of respecting women’s bodies and rejecting societal pressures to conform to unrealistic standards.

As more public figures like Zara use their platforms to address such issues, it contributes to a broader cultural shift towards empathy and acceptance, challenging harmful stereotypes and encouraging self-confidence among women.
