Pakistan Super League franchise Sialkot has officially confirmed its identity, with OZ Developers announcing Sialkot Stallionz as the team name ahead of PSL 11.

The owners of the new franchise, entering the league alongside a Hyderabad-based team, shared the branding decision publicly through their official social media accounts recently.

The chosen name is widely regarded as a tribute to the legendary Sialkot Stallions, a dominant domestic T20 team in Pakistan’s cricket circuit during the 2000s.

The original Stallions were celebrated for an era-defining run, achieving a record-setting winning streak while securing multiple domestic T20 titles across Pakistan during their successful period.

The Sialkot franchise was secured by Hamza Majeed of OZ Developers, who reportedly won the bid at Rs 1.85 billion annually, making it the most expensive.

Speaking at his first media interaction after purchasing the franchise, Hamza said the team’s selection strategy would strictly remain performance-based for upcoming seasons and competitions.

He added the franchise would prioritise the best available Pakistani talent initially and then consider Australian players while evaluating coaching options from Australia if required later.

Hamza also addressed concerns about Sialkot possibly missing its traditional home stadium during PSL matches due to venue unavailability or logistical challenges for hosting games locally.

He said reviving Jinnah Stadium Sialkot would remain a key priority jointly shared by the franchise and PCB, while Iqbal Stadium Faisalabad would serve as secondary venue temporarily.
