The Punjab Examination Commission (PECTA) is facing a severe shortage of funds, raising concerns over the conduct of Grade 8 board examinations across the province.
Officials said PECTA is considering holding exams for only four subjects—Urdu, English, Mathematics, and Science—due to limited financial resources and budget constraints.
Sources revealed that the commission requires nearly Rs1 billion to conduct the examinations transparently and efficiently across Punjab, including logistics, staffing, and administrative costs.
Around 50,000 invigilators will be needed for the Grade 8 exams, with daily remuneration provided for their duties in supervising and assessing students.

To simplify the process, students will not be required to submit separate admission forms, as all registered students on the School Information System will automatically receive roll number slips.
More than one million students are currently registered for the Grade 8 examinations, highlighting the scale and importance of finalizing the exam structure and subjects.
PECTA has begun consultations with the Punjab government to secure the required funds, and a final decision regarding the number of subjects and examination arrangements is expected soon.
