Punjab Declares Summer Vacations 2026 for Schools and Colleges

The Punjab Government has officially announced the summer vacations for all public and private educational institutions across the province for the year 2026. The break, designed to prioritize the health and safety of students and staff amid rising temperatures and intense heatwaves, will commence on May 22, 2026.

Punjab’s Education Minister, Rana Sikandar Hayat, confirmed the decision, highlighting that schools and colleges will remain closed during the peak summer months to mitigate the adverse effects of extreme heat. This mandatory closure affects both public and private sector establishments, reflecting the government’s commitment to student wellbeing.

The Higher Education Department also issued an official notification detailing the college summer vacation schedule. All government and private colleges will suspend regular classes from May 22 until August 22, 2026. However, there are notable exceptions: students enrolled in four-year BS programs will continue to attend classes as usual, and examination schedules set by boards and universities will remain unchanged.

Schools are set to remain closed for a total of three months, allowing families and students ample time to prepare for this long break. Academic activities are expected to resume promptly later in August, with all schools and colleges reopening on Monday, August 24, 2026.

This extension of summer break is a proactive measure by the provincial government to avoid disruptions caused by environmental factors and ensure the safety of the educational community during harsh climatic conditions.
