Lahore Bans Commercial Vehicles Without Licences and Fitness Certificates

The Lahore Traffic Police have enforced a strict ban on the entry of commercial vehicles whose drivers do not hold valid driving licences or whose vehicles lack mandatory fitness certificates. This move aims to enhance road safety and ensure adherence to traffic regulations in the provincial capital.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi, stated that only commercial vehicles operated by licensed drivers will be permitted to enter Lahore. This decision is part of a wider crackdown addressing traffic violations and unsafe commercial transport practices.
According to the new directives, commercial vehicles lacking functional front and rear lights, misusing high beams, or operating without valid fitness certificates will face stringent action. Additionally, loader tractor-trolleys transporting sand, soil, or similar materials are required to cover their loads with tarpaulins properly. Failure to comply with these rules will result in immediate legal consequences.
To enforce these measures, Lahore Traffic Police have initiated a comprehensive inspection campaign, including general hold-ups at major city entry and exit points. Senior officers, including SPs and DSPs, have been assigned to oversee the enforcement operations personally.
The initiative intends to reduce road accidents, improve traffic discipline, and ensure that commercial vehicles meet safety standards before entering Lahore. The CTO emphasized the adoption of a zero-tolerance policy towards traffic violations and urged commercial drivers to carry all necessary documents, including valid driving licences and fitness certificates, to avoid penalties during inspections.
