Leaders Demand Rs. 100 Cut in Petrol Prices Amid Iran-US Accord

ISLAMABAD: Following the recent implementation of the Iran-US peace accord, political leaders in Pakistan have called for a significant reduction in petrol prices to provide economic relief to citizens.
Senator Ali Zafar of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) urged the government to cut petrol prices by Rs. 100 per litre, emphasizing that the levy on petrol should also be abolished. He pointed out that petrol prices in the international market have fallen considerably and that the benefits of this price drop must be passed on to the Pakistani public, especially the underprivileged.
Similarly, Hafiz Naeem, Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), has demanded an even steeper reduction, asking the federal government to lower the price by Rs. 225 per litre. These calls come amid growing inflationary pressures, with leaders arguing that bringing petrol prices down to 2022 levels would offer much-needed economic relief to citizens struggling with rising costs.
Ali Zafar stressed that the removal of petrol levies could provide immediate and substantial relief to consumers. He appealed to the government to take emergency measures to adjust prices accordingly, highlighting the urgency to address the economic challenges faced by ordinary Pakistanis.
The recent Iran-US peace accord and subsequent easing of geopolitical tensions have contributed to the expectation of lower oil prices globally. Pakistani leaders and analysts alike hope the government will translate these international developments into tangible benefits for the nation’s economy and its people.
As inflation continues to affect various sectors, the easing of fuel prices could potentially help alleviate strain on transportation costs and commodity prices, thereby supporting broader economic stability. However, government officials have yet to announce any immediate plans regarding petrol price adjustments.
Market watchers will be keen to monitor future decisions on fuel pricing and levies, which play a crucial role in Pakistan’s economic environment and impact the daily lives of millions.
