Zong Unveils Z HomeFi 5G Broadband at Premium Price
Zong has introduced Z HomeFi, claiming it as Pakistan’s first 5G home broadband service. The entry-level package offers 10 Mbps internet speed with a data cap of 100GB for Rs 4,500 per month. Despite Zong’s 5G trials delivering speeds exceeding 1.4 Gbps, the consumer product delivers significantly lower speeds, drawing attention to the pricing relative to actual performance.
Zong Z HomeFi 5G Broadband Pricing and Plans
The service provides various packages ranging from 10 Mbps to 50 Mbps speeds, with monthly data limits spanning 100GB to 500GB. Notably, there is no unlimited data plan, and the connection gets suspended once users reach their data limit. Zong issues notifications at 50%, 80%, and 100% usage, but these alerts do not prevent service interruptions.
Additionally, customers must purchase a compatible 5G device priced at Rs 22,000, leading to a total initial expenditure of Rs 26,500 for the first month. The service is available in Pakistan’s largest cities; however, the operator has not clarified the specific locations covered.
Comparison With Other Broadband and Mobile Data Options
Evaluating Zong’s offering alongside existing providers illuminates a steep price disparity. PTCL’s fiber broadband plans are notably superior, offering 40 Mbps speed with 2,500GB data at Rs 3,350 per month, which constitutes four times the speed and 25 times the data at a significantly lower cost than Zong’s entry package.
Further comparisons show PTCL’s 100 Mbps plan with 4,000GB of data for Rs 6,900 outperforms Zong’s 50 Mbps with 100GB for Rs 7,500. Other fiber providers like StormFiber and Optix also provide better value propositions. Mobile data plans from providers such as Telenor offer 130GB at Rs 1,043 for 15 days, pricing data at approximately Rs 8 per GB, which is substantially lower than Zong’s Rs 45 per GB on the 5G home broadband service.
Implications for Pakistani Consumers
Pakistan faces ongoing telecom affordability challenges. In this context, Zong’s premium pricing for limited 5G broadband connectivity raises questions about its suitability for the broader market. With fiber providers already delivering faster speeds and larger data volumes at lower prices, Z HomeFi’s appeal hinges primarily on portability and availability in regions without fiber coverage.
Zong’s Head of Marketing, Sajid Munir, emphasized the goal of improving daily lives through technology, but the product’s high per-GB cost presents a credibility challenge. For many Pakistani users, existing broadband and mobile internet packages may still offer better speed, capacity, and value compared to this newly launched 5G service.
