Sindh Bans Gas Cylinders in School Vans, Mandates Fitness Certificates

The Sindh Education Department has put a complete stop to the use of CNG and LPG gas cylinders in school vans across the province. This move comes as part of new safety regulations aimed at protecting students during transportation.

New Safety Rules for School Transport in Sindh

Following direct instructions from the provincial education minister, the education department has formally issued a notification to all private schools highlighting several safety protocols. Among these, the prohibition of carrying gas cylinders in school vans is a key measure. Another significant restriction forbids the storage or use of petrol in bottles or cans inside these vehicles, labeling it as extremely dangerous.

The notification also emphasizes strict adherence to passenger capacity limits. Vans must not transport more students than their approved seating allowance, and students are prohibited from riding on footboards or standing while the vehicle is in motion.

Mandatory Fitness Certification for School Vehicles

In a further step to strengthen student safety, the department now requires every school van to hold a fitness certificate granted by the Sindh government. The certificate must be displayed at all times inside the vehicle. Authorities have warned schools that failure to comply with these directives may result in penalties or other actions.

Implications for Schools and Parents in Pakistan

This initiative by Sindh authorities comes amid growing concerns over student safety during commutes. Vehicle-related incidents involving school transport have occasionally resulted in tragic outcomes, prompting governments to prioritize stricter controls. For Pakistani parents, these regulations offer a welcome assurance that their children’s transport will meet higher safety standards.

Private educational institutions have been urged to enforce these rules rigorously, with no compromises allowed. The Sindh Education Department has clearly communicated that the safety of students remains a non-negotiable priority in all school transportation policies.
