Amazon Plans Satellite Broadband for Pakistan Users

Amazon is preparing to launch its Project Kuiper satellite broadband services in Pakistan by the end of 2026, marking a significant step in digital transformation.

The initiative follows a meeting between Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja and Amazon representatives from the Low Earth Orbit satellite program.

Discussions centered on expanding digital connectivity and providing high-speed broadband access across Pakistan, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

Project Kuiper aims to deliver affordable and reliable satellite internet to regions where conventional broadband infrastructure remains limited or economically unfeasible.

The initiative supports the government vision of creating a digitally inclusive society where all citizens benefit from efficient and secure online services.

Amazon officials announced plans to develop local infrastructure, including gateways, ground stations, and connection hubs, ensuring integration with Pakistan digital ecosystem.

The system will operate through a network of 3,236 satellites designed to deliver download speeds of up to 400 megabits per second.

Shaza Fatima welcomed Amazon investment, emphasizing that the collaboration would drive innovation, bridge connectivity gaps, and attract global technology partners.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to promoting international cooperation supporting technological advancement, digital inclusion, and sustainable economic development in Pakistan.

In an another development, Google has announced free one-year access to the Gemini AI Pro plan for eligible university students in Pakistan aged eighteen years and above.

The initiative aims to strengthen digital learning and enhance creativity among university students across the country through advanced artificial intelligence tools.

According to Google, the Gemini AI Pro plan includes a range of intelligent tools designed to assist students with research, writing, analysis, and creative projects.

Students will gain access to the Gemini 2.5 Pro model, which features Deep Research capabilities to support academic assignments, reports, and innovative learning activities.

The AI suite is fully integrated into Google applications, including Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet, to streamline everyday educational tasks efficiently.
