BYD Atto 8 Electric SUV Charges in Just 9 Minutes
Chinese automaker BYD introduced its new electric SUV, the Atto 8, at the 2026 Paris Motor Show. This seven-seat model showcases cutting-edge charging technology capable of replenishing its battery from 10% to 97% in only nine minutes under certain conditions. The Atto 8 marks BYD’s advancement into Europe’s premium electric SUV market, combining impressive range, power, and fast charging capabilities.
Performance and Specifications of BYD Atto 8
The BYD Atto 8 will be available in two variants: a rear-wheel-drive Design RWD and an all-wheel-drive Excellence AWD, both using the 115 kWh second-generation Blade Battery. The single-motor RWD version produces 340 kW (approximately 456 horsepower) and offers a WLTP-certified range of up to 653 kilometers. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in eight seconds. The dual-motor AWD variant boosts output to 570 kW (around 764 horsepower) and can cover up to 602 kilometers, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds.
Revolutionary Charging Technology
One of the Atto 8’s standout features is its FLASH Charging system, which drastically reduces charging times—a common concern for electric vehicle users. BYD claims that the battery can be charged from 10% to 70% in five minutes and fully charged from 10% to 97% in nine minutes when paired with compatible high-power chargers. Additionally, the system can perform rapid charges in temperatures as low as -30°C. BYD plans to deploy 3,000 FLASH Charging stations across Europe by the end of 2027 to support this technology.
Luxury and Space for Families
Designed with family comfort in mind, the Atto 8 provides seating for seven occupants, distinguishing itself in size and practicality among electric SUVs. The first two rows offer features like heating, ventilation, and massage functions, underscoring its premium positioning. Its exterior incorporates modern design elements such as slim LED daytime running lights, matrix LED headlights, and a distinctive floating-roof effect created by darkened rear pillars.
The Atto 8 joins BYD’s expanding electric vehicle lineup in Europe, which includes models like the Atto 2, Atto 3, and Sealion series. Its debut comes amid a surge in Chinese automakers boosting their presence in the highly competitive European EV market, with 20 Chinese brands participating in the 2026 Paris Motor Show.
Azka Ali, an auto industry analyst, commented, “BYD’s ultra-fast charging technology represents a significant leap forward that could redefine customer expectations for electric SUVs.”
While BYD plans to launch the Atto 8 in Europe during early 2027, the company has yet to announce pricing or availability details for Pakistan. However, the vehicle’s advanced features reflect the rapid evolution of electric vehicles worldwide, signaling potential changes in how Pakistani consumers might approach EV ownership in the future.
