Gul Ahmed to Build Pakistan’s Largest AI Data Centre

Quantum Global Data Centre (QGDC), a venture of the Gul Ahmed Energy Group, has announced plans to develop Pakistan’s largest Tier III data centre, focusing on AI infrastructure. The initial investment for this project is set at $230 million, with potential expansion to $600 million over the next three to four years.
The facility, scheduled for completion by 2027, will be built in partnership with Huawei Pakistan. Alongside the data centre, a science and technology park will be established to support Pakistan’s national digital transformation agenda.
QGDC Chairman Danish Iqbal highlighted the growing importance of AI infrastructure in Pakistan, noting that the country currently spends between $700 million and $800 million annually on AI. Iqbal emphasized that demand for computing power is expected to increase sharply, warning that without investment in domestic infrastructure, Pakistan may face billions of dollars in data service imports.
The chairman also pointed out substantial local demand for data centre capacity, spanning sectors such as businesses, hospitals, educational institutions, and the expanding cloud-based digital services market. Speakers at the related summit underscored the broader economic benefits of investing in digital infrastructure, suggesting it would significantly boost technology and innovation development.
This development marks a significant step in augmenting Pakistan’s technological capabilities while aiming to reduce reliance on foreign data services by building robust domestic infrastructure suited for AI and data-driven industries.
