Harry Kane Loses Voice Celebrating England’s World Cup Win

England’s striker Harry Kane revealed that he lost his voice after enthusiastically celebrating England’s 3-2 victory over Mexico in the FIFA World Cup round of 16. The dramatic win has advanced England into the quarter-finals, where they will face Norway.

During a post-match interview with the BBC, Kane struggled to speak following the celebrations. He joined his teammates and around 3,000 traveling English fans at the Azteca Stadium in singing “Wonderwall,” the Oasis hit that has emerged as an anthem for the Three Lions throughout the tournament.

“My voice has gone,” Kane said. “It was a crazy game; we had to fight. We had to find something. I’ve just been singing there; I can’t really talk. Everything was against us; we found a way. I’m speechless; I can’t even talk.” The moment highlighted the emotional intensity following England’s hard-fought victory.

The match was notable for England playing more than 40 minutes with ten men after Jarell Quansah received a red card. Jude Bellingham scored twice, with Kane converting the decisive penalty to seal the win. England’s choice of “Wonderwall” as a post-match celebration song traces back to FIFA’s requirement that every team submit three songs prior to the tournament. England’s selections included “Wonderwall” and “Sweet Caroline,” the latter known as a traditional tournament anthem.

Since England’s opening 4-2 win over Croatia, “Wonderwall” has been sung after every knockout phase victory, further solidifying its connection with English football fans. Kane previously described the singing with supporters as one of his favorite moments wearing the national team jersey, emphasizing the powerful emotional connection shared with fans.

Liam Gallagher, Oasis’ frontman, has publicly expressed support for England’s adoption of “Wonderwall” as the post-match song, tweeting encouragement to the team during the tournament.

However, celebrations were slightly marred by an injury to Jordan Henderson, who was taken to hospital after landing awkwardly on his wrist during the post-match celebrations. England’s coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed the injury’s seriousness.

England now looks ahead to the quarter-final clash against Norway, hoping to continue their World Cup journey with the same fighting spirit that earned their latest victory.
