Internet Slowdown Expected in Pakistan Due to PTCL Cable Repair

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has announced a scheduled maintenance operation expected to cause internet slowdowns across Pakistan starting from May 11, 2026.

The maintenance involves the repair of a fault in one of PTCL’s submarine cables and will be conducted by the International Cable Consortium. This repair activity is slated to continue until May 18, 2026.

PTCL has warned its customers that during this period, internet services may experience degradation, notably with slower speeds and occasional connectivity interruptions. The impact is anticipated to be more pronounced during evening hours across the country.

Officials from PTCL emphasized that while the maintenance could temporarily affect connectivity, it is a crucial step to restore the cable’s integrity. The repairs are expected to improve the reliability and overall quality of internet services in the long term.

The company highlighted that it is coordinating closely with the International Cable Consortium to expedite the repair work and minimize inconvenience to users. PTCL extended an apology for any disruptions caused during this time and assured customers that the maintenance activities serve to enhance future network performance.

Internet users across Pakistan should prepare for possible intermittent disruptions and reduced internet speeds throughout the repair period, with an expectation that normal service will resume following completion of the maintenance work.
