LDA Advances Lahore Road and Parking Infrastructure Projects

The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has recently conducted a comprehensive inspection of multiple urban improvement projects spanning key areas of Lahore, including Jail Road, Canal Bank Road, and Outfall Road. This is part of the city-wide effort to enhance road conditions, expand parking facilities, and improve traffic flow in the rapidly growing metropolis.

LDA’s Focus on Road Upgrades and Urban Beautification

Director General Tahir Farooq personally reviewed various repair and rehabilitation efforts along Jail Road and Ayesha Siddiqua Road. He emphasized the need to refurbish footpath kerbstones with fresh paint, repair road surfaces, and coordinate facade upgrades with property owners to bolster the aesthetic appeal of the area. The DG further evaluated progress at Canal Bank Road, issuing detailed instructions to officials for smooth continuation of ongoing work.

Parking Plaza Project Nears Completion

One of the major highlights of the inspection was the underground Nasser Bagh Parking Plaza, which has achieved 84% completion. The facility, designed to hold over 256 cars and 500 motorcycles, is currently seeing the installation of parking management systems, elevators, electrical fittings, and surveillance equipment. According to Lahore’s Chief Traffic Officer Abdul Rahim Shirazi, the completion of this and the Neela Gumbad parking plazas is anticipated to significantly alleviate parking difficulties in these congested areas.

Addressing Traffic and Encroachment Challenges

Farooq also assessed improvements on Outfall Road, where the road was widened following the removal of illegal encroachments. At Data Darbar, traffic flow and illegal parking issues—especially those caused by motorcycle rickshaws—were reviewed in coordination with the Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency and local traffic police. These measures aim to streamline city traffic and enforce rules against roadside encroachments that hamper movement.

These ongoing development interventions by the LDA are crucial for ensuring sustainable urban growth in Lahore, a city grappling with increasing vehicular load and infrastructure strain. For Pakistani citizens, enhanced road conditions and upgraded parking infrastructure mean reduced travel times and improved quality of urban life.

In Farooq’s words, the coordination between various city departments is fundamental to making Lahore’s roadways safer and more efficient for all commuters.
