Male Use of Pink Scooters to Face Strict Action

Sindh has launched a province-wide crackdown on men found riding pink electric scooters designed exclusively for women under the Pink Scooter Project initiative.

Officials warned that any scooter being used by male will be confiscated immediately to maintain the program’s goal of empowering women riders.

According to Managing Director Sindh Mass Transit Authority Kanwal Nizam Bhutto, scooters operating without registration number plates or valid licenses will also be seized.

She highlighted that helmets are mandatory for women riders, reflecting the emphasis of the government on road safety and lawful use of electric scooters.

The Pink Scooter Project was introduced to enhance the mobility and independence of women by providing them access to eco-friendly and affordable transport options across Sindh.

So far, 200 scooters have been distributed among women in Karachi and nearby districts following comprehensive training on traffic rules and road safety practices.

Bhutto stated that the police, traffic police, and excise departments have been directed to ensure strict enforcement against unauthorized or unsafe scooter usage.

She stressed that allowing men to use these scooters completely undermines the core mission of the program aimed at empowering working women and students.

The next phase of the project will distribute 725 additional scooters in Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, and Larkana to support women’s access to education and employment.
