OGDCL Reports 53% Profit Increase in Q1 2026

Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Pakistan’s leading exploration and production firm, has reported a significant rise in net profit for the first quarter ending September 30, 2026. The company posted a consolidated net profit of PKR 58.5 billion, reflecting a 53% increase compared to PKR 38.3 billion in the same period last year.

Strong Revenue Growth Drives Profit Surge

The profit upswing came on the back of a robust 38% increase in revenue, which reached PKR 132.4 billion, up from PKR 96.2 billion in the previous year’s first quarter. This boost in revenue contributed to a 48% jump in gross profit, which soared to PKR 83.1 billion compared to PKR 56.3 billion in the corresponding period of 2025.

OGDCL’s earnings per share (EPS) also showed a notable improvement, rising to PKR 13.60 from PKR 8.91 last year. Profit before tax climbed by 42%, totaling PKR 88 billion, up from PKR 62 billion year-on-year.

Operational Expenses and Other Income

While exploration and prospecting costs witnessed an increase of nearly 55% to PKR 4.8 billion, general and administrative expenses saw a modest rise to PKR 2.2 billion. Finance expenses decreased slightly by 5% to PKR 1.16 billion, supporting the company’s earnings. Additionally, finance and other income rose to PKR 13.8 billion, further bolstering profitability.

OGDCL’s share of profits from associate companies grew by 24%, reaching PKR 3.94 billion as opposed to PKR 3.17 billion in the prior year.

Record Dividend and Implications for Pakistan’s Energy Sector

Following these impressive results, OGDCL declared an interim cash dividend of PKR 5 per share for the quarter, marking the highest-ever first-quarter dividend payout in the company’s history.

OGDCL plays a critical role in Pakistan’s energy landscape, being the country’s largest oil and gas producer since its establishment in 1961. The sustained financial growth demonstrated in this quarter reflects positively on the company’s operational efficiency and positions it well to support Pakistan’s energy needs amid ongoing economic challenges.

For Pakistan, OGDCL’s strong financial health is significant as it not only contributes substantial revenue to the national exchequer but also enhances energy security by enabling greater investment in exploration and production activities.
