PSCA launches e-challan system in Gujranwala
The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has launched its digital e-challan system in Gujranwala, extending the province’s technology-based traffic enforcement network to another major city as part of efforts to enhance road safety and discipline.
Sindh has recently launched E-Challan in Karachi which had resulted in backlash due to heavy fines. Even one religious party had moved to court against E-Challan in Sindh.

The system, already operational in Lahore, Faisalabad, and Multan, uses high-definition surveillance cameras and automated monitoring to detect traffic violations such as driving without helmets or seatbelts, using fake or illegal number plates, and signal jumping. Offenders receive automatic challans via SMS alerts linked to their registered vehicle data.
According to PSCA officials, over 1,066 HD cameras have been installed across Gujranwala for round-the-clock monitoring. The system integrates with law enforcement databases, enabling authorities to track violations and repeat offenders more efficiently. A PSCA spokesperson said the cameras, originally deployed to aid police in criminal investigations, will now also play a critical role in enforcing traffic laws and improving public safety.
SP Safe City Authority Gujranwala, Irfan Salhriya, said the project had completed a two-month testing phase to address technical issues before going live. “From today, e-challans are being issued, and violations are monitored 24/7,” he said, adding that manual ticketing would continue alongside digital enforcement.
Officials warned that motorists failing to pay fines on time could face doubled penalties or legal proceedings. The PSCA urged citizens to follow traffic rules, emphasizing that automated surveillance systems leave little room for evasion.
The e-challan expansion to Gujranwala marks another milestone in Punjab’s smart governance and public safety initiatives, designed to reduce accidents, improve compliance, and promote safer urban mobility through technology-driven oversight.
