Retail Digital Transactions Hit Historic Milestones FY25

Pakistan now has 123 million registered digital platform users, slightly more than half of all deposit-taking accounts nationwide.

Mobile banking processed Rs83.2 trillion in FY25, an 80% increase, completing 1.8 billion transactions, outpacing ATMs, internet banking, POS, and e-commerce combined.

Branchless wallets led digital payments with 4.2 billion transactions valued at Rs14.2 trillion, remaining the largest contributor among all payment channels.

Retail digital transactions through scheduled banks reached 21.7% of total throughput, rising by 8.21 percentage points, marking a historic annual growth milestone.

Internet banking saw throughput jump 62% to Rs38.1 trillion, with volumes rising 24% to 276.5 million transactions, maintaining strong adoption across the country.

Point-of-sale payments grew 37% to Rs2.1 trillion, with 377.7 million transactions, supported by 59.3 million payment cards and 195,849 terminals nationwide.

E-commerce card payments reached 51.8 million transactions, up 30%, generating Rs249.7 billion, with bank merchants increasing to 9,584 by FY25.

Electronic money institution networks also expanded to 16,635, supporting further growth in card-based and digital merchant payment infrastructure across Pakistan.

Branchless wallets handled 683.9 million online merchant transactions, worth Rs662.7 billion, highlighting account-based payments’ dominance over conventional card payments in FY25.

Overall, 60.8% of scheduled bank retail transaction volumes were conducted digitally, rising from 52.5%, indicating consistent growth in adoption nationwide.
