Sindh Temporarily Relaxes Vehicle Transfer Rules Until June 30
The Sindh Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department has announced a temporary relaxation on the mandatory seller biometric verification requirement for vehicle ownership transfers. This exemption is effective until June 30, 2026, and aims to facilitate the transfer process for vehicle buyers across the province.
Officially notified on May 6, 2026, the relaxation allows buyers to complete vehicle ownership transfers without the compulsory biometric verification of the seller, which is usually processed through NADRA’s system. This adjustment will reduce delays often encountered in the transfer of used vehicles where the seller might be unavailable, unwilling, abroad, deceased, or difficult to trace.
This measure is particularly beneficial for used-car buyers who have pending vehicle transfer cases. It also supports dealers managing delayed ownership documentation and families handling inherited vehicles. The change addresses administrative roadblocks commonly faced in Karachi and the broader Sindh region where numerous vehicle transfers are stalled due to seller-related complications.
Despite this temporary relief, authorities emphasize that vehicle ownership transfer remains an essential legal requirement. Failure to complete the transfer can result in issues including liability for traffic fines, token tax complications, ownership disputes, and difficulties in future resale or accident claims. Buyers are urged to utilize the exemption period effectively and complete all pending transfers before the deadline.
Industry experts recommend that vehicle purchasers in Sindh adhere to best practices such as verifying ownership documents thoroughly, clearing all dues, and avoiding prolonged pending transfers to prevent legal and financial complications.
As this relaxation measures help alleviate transfer backlogs in the short term, officials caution that the provision is temporary and will not be extended beyond June 30, 2026.
