SNGPL Targets 0.3M RLNG Based Connections: MD SNGPL

MD Sui Northern Amer Tufail on Wednesday said that Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) has targeted 0.3 million gas connections this year.

He said that the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has removed a ban on domestic gas connections.

This year’s target is 300,000 gas connections and the company will provide 600,000 domestic gas connections next year,” he said adding that approval has been granted to give RLNG based gas connections.

He further noted that gas consumers would not have to buy LNG cylinders as they would get gas through RLNG connections.

He further added that the company had received around 245,000 applicants for gas connections. He also announced to give priority to those customers who had already applied for connections.

However, customers can submit applications with urgent fee to get gas connections on urgent basis.

Pakistan imports LNG from Qatar on government to government basis which was supposed to meet demand of power sector. But the government has been facing problems to consume the imported gas as the power sector was not ready to lift committed volumes of gas for electricity production.

Now the government had decided to consume imported gas in domestic sector to avoid possible default in LNG imports.

The government has fixed the price of LNG at Rs3,200 per metric million British thermal units (MMBtu) which would be more expensive for LNG consumers than those using indigenous gas.

Mr Tufail visited Regional Office Islamabad in a bid to inspect the provision of services to consumers regarding RLNG-based connections

He also briefed the national media at the Company’s Regional Office, Islamabad with regard to the Prime Minister’s directives on new RLNG connections.

He also inspected their implementation at SNGPL, and the associated policy aspects.

During the media interaction, he addressed various queries of journalists.

He also assured to keep the process of providing new RLNG-based connections transparent in line with government directives.

Earlier, the MD visited the Customer Services Center in Islamabad and inspected the provision of services to consumers relating to providing RLNG-based gas connections.

The MD has also lauded efforts of the Regional Management to ensure better facilitation to consumers to allocate additional resources to manage the job efficiently.
