Spotify Users on iOS 27 Can Use Siri Without Saying ‘on Spotify’

Spotify has enhanced its Siri integration on Apple devices running iOS 27, allowing users to play music or podcasts without having to specify the app in their voice commands. This change means Siri can now learn and remember music app preferences, automatically directing audio requests to Spotify once it recognizes the user’s habitual choice.

Siri’s Smarter Music App Recognition on iOS 27

With the launch of iOS 27, Spotify users on compatible iPhones no longer need to append “on Spotify” to their requests when asking Siri to play content. Previously, iPhone owners had to include this phrase for Siri to avoid defaulting to Apple Music. The new update lets Siri detect preferred streaming services based on repeated use, streamlining hands-free listening.

The feature extends beyond just playing songs and albums; users can command Siri to access playlists like Discover Weekly, AI-generated DJ mixes, podcasts, and audiobooks within Spotify. Siri can also resume podcast playback, search a user’s Spotify library, and create AI-powered playlists through voice commands. Additionally, basic controls such as skipping tracks, saving songs, and adjusting volume are now accessible via Siri.

Limitations and Availability

This Siri upgrade is exclusive to iPhone 15 Pro models and newer devices running iOS 27, with Apple’s Intelligence feature enabled. Older iPhone variants, including the iPhone 15 non-Pro, iPhone 14, and preceding models, must still specify “on Spotify” when issuing commands to Siri. The functionality initially supports English-language Siri users and is available in select countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, India, New Zealand, Singapore, and South Africa. The European Union is notably excluded, amid ongoing regulatory tensions between Apple and EU authorities.

Besides iPhones, the improved voice assistant capabilities work across Apple Watch, AirPods, and CarPlay, benefitting users who depend on voice control during activities such as driving.

Why This Update Matters for Pakistani Users

As Spotify continues to grow its user base globally, now boasting 761 million monthly active users and 293 million Premium subscribers, this Siri integration improvement enhances the convenience of accessing Spotify’s content for iPhone users in Pakistan. It closes some of the usability gaps between Apple Music, the default Siri streaming service, and Spotify, empowering listeners to interact more naturally with their preferred music platform on Apple devices. However, the current limitations mean many users with older or non-Pro iPhone models will still need to include the app name in commands.

Spotify’s move also underscores the evolving competition in the music streaming market, where seamless voice assistant compatibility can influence user loyalty. For Pakistani tech enthusiasts and Spotify subscribers, this feature signals ongoing enhancements in the user experience, reflecting broader trends in AI-driven personalization and voice technology integration.

Spotify spokesperson described the update as “a step forward in hands-free listening convenience,” highlighting the shift toward smarter, adaptive voice interactions.
