Huawei-Backed Luxeed to Launch V9 MPV in May

Luxeed, a new automotive brand jointly developed by Huawei and Chery, is set to officially launch its V9 multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) later this month, according to an announcement by Huawei executive director Richard Yu on Weibo.

The V9 MPV began pre-sales on April 22, just before the Beijing Auto Show, carrying a starting price of 399,800 yuan (approximately $58,750). The vehicle has already generated considerable market interest, receiving over 22,500 pre-orders within the first 72 hours of sales.

The Luxeed V9 is the flagship MPV under the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) umbrella—an initiative that includes several automotive brands collaborating on smart mobility solutions. The V9 features a seven-seat, three-row configuration with dimensions of 5,359 mm in length, 2,009 mm in width, and a height between 1,859 mm and 1,879 mm. It also has a wheelbase of 3,250 mm, promising a spacious interior for families and group travel.

Powering the V9 is a 1.5-liter extended-range engine paired with a battery pack supplied by CATL, with Huawei providing its drive system technology. Customers can choose between battery capacities of 37 kWh or 53.4 kWh, offering electric-only ranges of 158 to 223 kilometers. When operated in extended-range mode, the V9 can achieve a maximum combined range of up to 1,250 km on a full fuel tank and battery charge.

The vehicle’s chassis is based on Huawei’s Turing platform and includes standard rear-wheel steering across all variants, which is designed to enhance maneuverability and driving dynamics. Luxeed has already distributed the first batch of V9 display models to its retail dealers in preparation for the upcoming launch.

Besides the V9 MPV, Luxeed’s lineup includes the S7 sedan and the R7 coupe SUV, marking the brand’s ongoing expansion in the electric and hybrid vehicle market segments. The HIMA business alliance also brings together other brands such as BAIC Group’s Stelato, Seres Group’s Aito, SAIC Motor’s Shangjie, and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group’s (JAC) Maextro. These brands collectively offer a range of sedans and SUVs and reported combined deliveries of 32,759 units in April 2026—a year-on-year increase of 18.9%.

Luxeed’s V9 MPV launch aligns with the growing interest in electric and extended-range vehicles catering to consumers seeking spacious, versatile, and technologically advanced family transportation solutions in China’s evolving automotive market.
