NAB Probes Sindh Highway Contracts, Notices Issued to 40 Firms

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Sukkur has intensified its investigation into alleged irregularities related to public infrastructure projects in Sindh by issuing notices to 40 government contractors. These contractors are involved in various highway development projects across the province.

According to NAB sources, the authority has requested detailed contract documentation spanning from 2014 to 2025. The investigation is not limited to contractors; it has expanded to include numerous Executive Engineers (XENs) working within the provincial highways department.

NAB has directed contractors, operating in areas from Karachi to Kashmore, to submit comprehensive documentation. This includes work orders, payment ledgers, and relevant project files. The investigation follows allegations of financial mismanagement and misuse of funds in large-scale highway development contracts throughout Sindh.

Earlier summons were issued to several contractors for a hearing scheduled on April 30. For those who did not comply, NAB has issued second notices to ensure full cooperation as it continues to collect evidence and verify the authenticity of records related to these projects.

Officials involved in the inquiry stated that the probe is ongoing and that further steps will be taken based on the information and materials provided by the contractors and government personnel linked to the projects.

This investigation is part of NAB’s broader initiative aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability in the expenditure of public funds, particularly concerning the development of major highways in Sindh. The outcome of this process could lead to regulatory or legal actions depending on the findings.

Such probes underscore the importance of due diligence in public sector contracts and the continued efforts of regulatory authorities to curb corruption and ensure proper use of development budgets in Pakistan.
