PM Shehbaz Emphasizes Strengthening Maritime Defence

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has highlighted the critical need to bolster Pakistan’s maritime defence capabilities amid evolving regional security challenges. Speaking at the passing-out parade of the 125th Midshipmen Course and 33rd Short Service Commission Course at the Pakistan Naval Academy, PNS Rahbar, the prime minister underscored the country’s dedication to safeguarding its maritime frontiers.

PM Shehbaz congratulated the graduating cadets and extended a warm welcome to officers from allied nations including Turkey, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Iraq, Sri Lanka, and Djibouti. He expressed the hope that the friendly relations nurtured during their training in Pakistan would deepen international bonds and foster continued cooperation.

Highlighting Pakistan’s diplomatic engagements, Shehbaz Sharif referred to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran, attributing its success to Pakistan’s sincere mediation and the support of friendly countries. The recent visit of Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian to Pakistan was cited as evidence of strong bilateral ties and Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and stability.

Addressing the strategic importance of maritime security, the prime minister noted that freedom of navigation and the right of free passage are essential for the global economy and international supply chains. He emphasized Pakistan’s resolve to develop the Pakistan Navy into a capable force that not only protects national waters but also contributes to broader regional stability.

Shehbaz Sharif recalled the naval operations Marka-e-Haq and Bunyanum Marsoos as demonstrations of the Pakistan Navy’s operational readiness where it successfully deterred a numerically superior adversary and protected Pakistan’s maritime interests throughout the conflict.

The prime minister acknowledged the complex security environment faced by Pakistan, with threats rising from both internal and external sources. He pointed to increased hostile actions by India following the previous year’s conflict, including covert operations and proxy use aimed at destabilizing Pakistan’s peace and security.

Additionally, he noted ongoing challenges posed by foreign-sponsored terrorism along Pakistan’s western borders, affirming the armed forces’ continued efforts to counter these threats.

Reiterating Pakistan’s steadfast support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and Gaza, Shehbaz Sharif stated the country’s dedication to advocating their just causes on the international stage.

The prime minister also highlighted the Pakistan Navy’s adoption of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and unmanned systems to effectively address emerging maritime challenges and maintain robust defence capabilities in the face of evolving threats.
