Apple to Fix iPhone 18 Pro Reboot Bug in Upcoming Update

Apple has acknowledged a software issue causing the iPhone 18 Pro to freeze and reboot unexpectedly. The problem, which emerged shortly after the launch of the new flagship model, is reportedly linked to failed Face ID authentication attempts.

Users reported that when trying to unlock certain secured apps—such as banking apps or private browser tabs—if the Face ID fails and the authentication is retried, the device screen freezes and forces a complete restart. Analytics data pointed to a critical system error, described as a “kernel panic,” occurring just before the unexpected reboot.

Initial speculation by technology analysts suggested that the fault might be related to hardware components of the iPhone 18 Pro, particularly the under-display infrared camera responsible for Face ID. However, Apple has since clarified that the issue is strictly software-based.

Apple confirmed that a software update addressing this reboot glitch will be released soon, likely as part of an iOS 27.0.1 update scheduled for next week. The company reassured customers that no physical repair or device replacement would be necessary, as the forthcoming update will resolve the kernel panic problem.

Meanwhile, users experiencing freezes can manually reboot their devices by pressing and releasing the volume up and down buttons in quick succession, and then holding the side button until the Apple logo appears to initiate a restart.

This quick fix is intended to help users cope with the temporary inconvenience until the software patch is officially deployed across all compatible devices.
