Android Expands AirDrop-Like Sharing with Quick Share

Google is broadening the accessibility of its Quick Share feature, enabling smoother file sharing between Android phones and Apple devices using AirDrop technology. The initiative aims to enhance cross-platform compatibility, making it easier for users to share files without compatibility issues.
Initially launched with the Pixel 10 series, Quick Share’s interoperability with Apple’s AirDrop has gradually reached other devices. The feature is now present on older Pixel models, Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series, Oppo Find X9 Ultra, vivo X300 Ultra, Pixel 8a, and Oppo Find N6.
More Android manufacturers are set to join this ecosystem as Google confirms upcoming support for additional Samsung devices, including the Galaxy S25 and S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7, Z Fold6, and Galaxy Z TriFold. Aside from Samsung, the expansion also targets smartphones from OnePlus, Oppo, and Honor, with models like the OnePlus 15, Oppo Find X8 series, Honor Magic V6, and Honor Magic8 Pro on the list.
Though Google has acknowledged ongoing efforts to expand Quick Share’s compatibility, no specific timeline for the broader rollout has been disclosed yet. This move comes as part of Google’s strategy to improve the user experience across multiple platforms, encouraging seamless file transfers between Android and iOS ecosystems.
Quick Share serves as Google’s answer to Apple’s AirDrop, providing Android users with a native and efficient method for wireless file sharing. Integrating its compatibility with AirDrop strengthens the convenience for users who operate devices from both platforms.
Cross-platform sharing features like these underscore the increasing collaboration between technology companies to prioritize user convenience and interoperability. As the feature continues rolling out to more devices, Android and iPhone users will find it easier to share photos, videos, documents, and other files without relying on third-party applications.
