BYD Sales Grow 11%; Overseas Shipments Double

Chinese automaker BYD has continued its upward sales trend for the sixth straight month, recording an 11% increase in vehicle sales in October 2026 compared to the same month last year. The company sold a total of 490,168 units, underlining the growing importance of its export markets.

Significant Surge in Overseas Sales

BYD’s international sales showed remarkable growth, with exports more than doubling year on year. In October alone, the automaker shipped 170,194 vehicles outside China, marking a 102.8% rise. These overseas shipments now constitute about 35% of BYD’s total sales, demonstrating the strategic emphasis on tapping into markets beyond China.

This expansion in international demand has been critical, as the domestic market in China remains fiercely competitive. Local automakers face price wars and a slowdown in consumer demand, particularly within electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle segments.

BYD’s Expansion in Pakistan

Pakistan exemplifies BYD’s growing international outreach. In July 2026, the country received its inaugural Roll-on/Roll-off shipment of over 2,000 BYD vehicles at Karachi Port. This substantial import included models such as the BYD Atto 2, Atto 3, and the Shark 6. Presently, BYD supplies Pakistani customers through completely built unit (CBU) imports as it prepares to initiate local assembly in collaboration with Mega Motor Company.

The Pakistani market is naturally significant for BYD, representing part of the company’s broader strategy to increase its footprint in Asia, alongside expansions in Europe and South America. This regional focus signals BYD’s intent to diversify its sales portfolio amid rising competition at home.

Challenges and Future Outlook

Although BYD has sustained growth, the pace has moderated, with October’s 11% rise following September’s 17% increase. The company also reported a 28% jump in net profit to 10 billion yuan during the third quarter, alongside a 13.6% revenue growth, yet its earnings fell short of market expectations.

Export growth has helped BYD offset reduced Chinese demand; however, international expansion may present challenges such as potential regulatory barriers, especially in Europe. Reports suggest BYD could face stricter controls on Chinese hybrid vehicle exports under evolving China-EU trade policies.

What This Means for Pakistan

For Pakistani consumers and the local automotive sector, BYD’s export-driven growth exemplifies the influx of innovative electric vehicles and signals a shift in market dynamics. As BYD moves toward local assembly, this could improve availability and potentially reduce costs for electric vehicles in Pakistan, supporting the country’s efforts to promote clean energy transportation. Industry watchers should observe how BYD balances competitive pressures domestically and internationally while expanding its influence in important growth markets such as Pakistan.

“BYD’s growing exports and local presence underscore the increasing demand for EVs, which are shaping the future of mobility in Pakistan,” said industry analyst, highlighting the strategic importance of these developments.
