Moscow launches test of the first Russian made electric Tram

The test of the first Russian-made electric vessels has been started in Moscow. The world’s first electric river tram has already appeared in the Southern River Port of Moscow and passed its first river trials.

In contrast to tourist motor ships, electric river trams will be able to operate all year round, that is why it was essential to test the hull of the new vessel in the cold weather.

According to the statement, river trams are equipped with two electric engines and are able to operate at a temperature from -25 to +40 degrees Celsius. Besides, electric vessels will be charged at the stops to save time between voyages and keep the headways.

At the same time, the engineering and navigation equipment is being tuned. Maneuvers are practiced: turns, mooring to the berths.

This, in turn, will allow to define the possibilities of the new generation of river transport as well as to make sure the transport is safe for passengers, crew, and other vessels on the river.

After the examination of key parameters, the detailed design of the cabin will begin.

The vessels are being assembled under the contract with the company “Vodohod. Passenger port” which is currently recruiting captains to work on the river streetcars as well as selecting the engineering staff to handle the ships ashore.

All captains will undergo a serious selection process and training.

“According to the contract, the company “Passenger port” will deliver 21 Russian-made electric vessels to Moscow, this year the first 9 river trams will be launched.

The Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin instructed to provide passengers with comfortable trips on the new river transport. That is why we have already started the operating test of river trams. All the electric vessels will be eco-friendly, silent, and economical.

The contractor will be responsible for the production and operation of electric vessels within the 15-year cycle contract”, – noted Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.
