Punjab Launches E-Bike Scheme for Students at Rs2,100 Monthly

The Punjab government has launched an electric bike scheme aimed at providing students with affordable and sustainable transportation. The initiative offers 100,000 electric bikes to students across Punjab, available through interest-free monthly installments of Rs2,100.

Announced in a meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the program is part of the provincial government’s broader push toward electric mobility. The scheme intends to reduce the upfront cost burden on students by offering a subsidy of Rs70,000 per electric bike. Beneficiaries are required to pay a down payment of Rs14,000, with the remaining amount spread over interest-free monthly installments.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz highlighted special relief for female students under the scheme. Eligible female applicants will have their down payment and registration fee covered by the government, meaning they will only be responsible for the monthly installment of Rs2,100. The policy aims to promote independent and affordable transportation for women, especially those attending colleges and universities.

In addition to students, the scheme also extends to Punjab government employees, allowing them to purchase electric bikes under similar installment plans. This move supports wider goals to encourage environmentally friendly transport options and decrease reliance on fossil fuels throughout the province.

The e-bike scheme aligns with other provincial initiatives such as electric buses and e-taxis designed to lower urban emissions and reduce fuel dependency. For students, the benefits include easing the high cost of daily commuting and providing improved access to personal mobility.

Overall, the Punjab electric bike program represents a concerted effort to build cleaner, more affordable transportation infrastructure, while empowering youth and government workers alike to adopt electric vehicles.
