Marka-e-Haq Lessons Added to Pakistan School Curriculum

A recent decision by the Punjab Information Steering Committee has set the stage for including lessons on patriotism and the Marka-e-Haq (Battle of Truth) in Pakistan’s school curriculum. The committee, chaired by Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari, convened with senior officials including the Information Secretary and representatives from the Home and Finance departments to discuss this educational initiative.

During the meeting, the committee unanimously agreed to integrate topics related to the Marka-e-Haq and national unity into educational syllabi. This move aims to enhance students’ understanding of the country’s historical struggles and foster a sense of patriotism from an early age. Additionally, the committee instructed private educational institutions to organize programs that promote these themes.

Beyond classroom lessons, the committee also resolved to produce visual media content to reinforce the message of national unity. This includes films centered on the Marka-e-Haq under the film funding initiative and a drama based on the life of Pakistan’s first Prime Minister, Liaquat Ali Khan, which will serve as a cultural tool for educating the public.

Minister Azma Bukhari emphasized the importance of combating hate speech and maintaining social harmony, particularly in view of the upcoming month of Muharram. To this end, a special monitoring cell will be established jointly by the Information and Home Departments. The cell’s objective is to identify and take swift action against individuals spreading hateful content on social media platforms.

The government officials also highlighted plans to launch a comprehensive public awareness campaign to promote unity and accurate information dissemination. In support of these efforts, it was recommended that the Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) continue his visits to educational institutions to engage with students and educators alike.

This initiative reflects a broader governmental effort to instill a cohesive national identity among Pakistan’s youth through education and media, aiming to foster patriotism while preventing sectarian and ideological divisions.
