Nepra Okays Rs 5.28 increase in KE Electricity bill June 2022

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Tuesday approved an increase in electricity tariff of Rs 5.28 per unit for KE consumers on account of fuel adjustment for the month of April 2022.

KE had sought an increase in the tariff by Rs 5.30 per unit on account of fuel adjustment for April and Rs 3.89 per unit for quarterly adjustment.

An additional burden of Rs 4 billion on consumers in April will be an additional burden of Rs 4 billion due to the use of furnace oil in power plants.

Nepra conducted a public hearing on the petition submitted by K-Electric on fuel charge adjustments (FCA) for April 2022 and quarterly adjustments for January to March 2022.

During the public hearing conducted here, KE authorities informed that global oil prices had jumped by 22 per cent.

Officials said that they were working to generate 500 MW of alternative energy. KE officials further said that they were working on a gas supply agreement with SSGC.

Nepra will issue a detailed decision regarding the quarterly adjustment after examining the data submitted by KE.

The base tariff is not just for one company but for the whole country, Chairman NEPRA said adding that NEPRA is well aware of the reasons for the increase in base tariffs.

Chairman Nepra also raised the question of why load shedding is being done at night.

A KE official said that there was no forced load shedding at night. Officials said it was a scheduled load shedding.

They said that KE had raised the issue of gas supply in various forums. They said that the demand for electricity was up to 3500 MW at night.
