PDM nominates Gilani for chairman senate
The PDM has decided to nominate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani as the joint opposition candidate for the chairmanship of the Senate while setting up a committee headed by Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to nominate the Leader of the Opposition and Deputy Chairman Senate.
The PDM summit, hosted by the PPP, was chaired by Maulana Fazlur Rehman. Leaders of all political parties attended the meeting. Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari attended the meeting via video link.
Addressing a press conference after the meeting, PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman briefed about the decisions and said PDM has nominated Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani as the joint opposition candidate for the chairmanship of the Senate.
A committee headed by Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has been set up to nominate the Leader of the Opposition and Deputy Chairman of the Senate and a meeting of the committee has been convened tomorrow.
He said that the anti-government long march would start on March 26. Caravans will leave from all over the country. The summit will meet again on March 15 to discuss the Long March strategy.
The PDM termed the meeting and vote of confidence convened to express confidence in the Prime Minister as illegal and unconstitutional. The meeting condemned the violence perpetrated by PTI workers on the PML-N leaders.During the Senate session, the intelligence agencies tried to influence the voters.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that we still have the option of resignations. We want to prove the movement fruitful.
Bilawal Bhutto said that by going to the Election Commission against Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, the government has admitted its defeat before the election of the Chairman Senate. The government wants to stop our candidate in undemocratic ways. We expect the Election Commission and the court to act in accordance with the Constitution and the law, he said.
Bilawal Bhutto said that the entire leadership is on the same page regarding the long march.
PML-N senior vice president Maryam Nawaz said that the government does not have the required number in the Senate for the election of chairman and deputy chairman of the senate. In what position did the government field its candidates? The government can win elections either through money or agencies.
Maryam Nawaz further said that it is not our intention to remove a person from the chair and bring a member of the same party to the chair through mistrust in Punjab, we do not support it.
The PDM aims to end the political role of the Establishment.
PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif via video link addressed and said the purpose of the formation of PDM was not to achieve the government but to end the political role of the establishment.
Furthermore, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was right that the success of Yousuf Raza Gilani will have an impact on the politics of the country. Lastly, his success has hollowed out the roots of the rulers. If PPP nominates Yousuf Raza Gilani for Senate chairman, PML-N will support him, he said.
