Diesel Price UP, Petrol Price Down

The government on Monday increased the price of high speed diesel (HSD) by Rs 3.37 per litre effective for July 28 in line with fluctuation in global oil prices.

However, the government has reduced the price of petrol for the consumers by Rs 1.00 per litre. At present, the government is following a mechanism of weekly oil prices review.

The price of High-Speed Diesel (HSD) has been increased by Rs. 3.37 per litre from the old price of Rs. 383.46 to Rs. 386.83 per litre.Government Announces Petrol and Diesel Price Hike

The government has reduced the price of Motor Spirit (petrol) by Re. 1.00 per litre from the old price of Rs. 335.18 to Rs. 334.18 per litre, reveals a notification issued by the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division).

The high speed diesel is widely used in the transport and agriculture sectors whereas the consumers use petrol in motorbikes and cars. 

The government had maintained oil prices on Saturday effectively for two days-July 26-27.This was a relief for the consumers after facing a continuous increase in prices during a week.

The government has been under fire over continous increase in oil prices under weekly oil prices review.

The government had also been facing criticism over hefty collection of petroleum levy from the oil consumers. It expected to collect Rs 1.7 trillion from the oil consumers on account of petroleum levy (PL) during the ongoing financial year.
