Punjab Schools to Begin Summer Break from May 22

The provincial Education Minister of Punjab, Rana Sikandar Hayat, has announced the summer vacation schedule for schools across Punjab. The schools will close for summer holidays starting from May 22, 2026, with students expected to resume classes on August 23, 2026.
This schedule provides a summer break of just over three months, a period extended to help students and staff cope with the anticipated severe weather conditions predicted for the region.
The decision comes amid warnings from the Punjab Disaster Management Authority and the Pakistan Meteorological Office about extreme weather events expected during the summer months. These include above-normal temperatures, heavy rainfall, heatwaves, flash floods, urban flooding, and windstorms, which are likely to affect multiple areas within the province.
Weather officials have also cautioned that the rising temperatures may trigger strong winds, dust storms, and hailstorms that could potentially damage seasonal crops, vegetables, and orchards. The summer break schedule aims to safeguard students from exposure to harsh weather, ensuring their safety and well-being.
The extended vacation aligns with the government’s precautionary measures to mitigate the impact of weather-related disruptions on education activities. The authorities have encouraged schools, parents, and communities to remain vigilant and prepared during this period.
This announcement complements other ongoing initiatives by the Punjab Education Department, which recently unveiled a new free textbook distribution plan for government schools in preparation for the upcoming academic session.
With the summer holidays approaching, the education sector in Punjab is also keeping a close watch on the evolving weather patterns to consider any further adjustments if necessary. Meanwhile, students are advised to use the summer break effectively while ensuring compliance with safety guidelines issued by relevant authorities.
