US donates Pakistan 2.5m doses of Covid Vaccine

Islamabad: The United States provided 2.5 million doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, which arrived on Friday at Islamabad International Airport.

In partnership with the COVAX global vaccination project, UNICEF, and the Pakistani government, the United States is giving these immunizations to Pakistanis.

This donation is part of the 80 million doses that the US is sharing with the rest of the world as part of our commitment to ensuring equitable global access to safe and effective vaccines, which is crucial to ending the COVID-19 outbreak. As President Biden remarked, the United States is committed to approaching global immunization efforts with the same urgency that we have shown at home.

Angela P. Aggeler, ChargĂ© d’affaires of the US Embassy in Pakistan, stated that the US Mission in Pakistan is happy to share these safe and effective immunizations with the people of Pakistan.

“These immunizations will help Pakistan recover from the calamity that has decimated so many families and communities in both of our countries. A vaccinated population will also aid in the restoration of the economic and social interactions that we all value. We appreciate our continuous collaboration with the Pakistani government and our international partners in making this delivery and these goals a reality.”

In addition to today’s vaccine contribution, the United States has offered about $50 million in COVID assistance through our engagement with the Pakistani government.

Since the epidemic, we have worked together to improve patient care, expand laboratory testing, disease monitoring, and case tracking throughout all districts, and support frontline healthcare workers.

Separately, the United States has pledged $4 billion to fund COVAX by acquiring and supplying COVID-19 vaccines to 92 low- and middle-income countries. This contribution encourages fair vaccine access for the world’s most vulnerable and vulnerable populations, particularly frontline healthcare workers. In May, Pakistan received 1.2 million doses of the Astra Zeneca vaccine as part of the COVAX program.
