Punjab Boards Revise Marking Policy for 2026 Inter Practical Exams

Punjab education boards have announced a significant change in the evaluation system for Intermediate Part-II practical examinations scheduled for 2026. The new marking policy introduces a centralized checking system for the written section of practical exams, aiming to ensure greater transparency and consistency in the assessment process.

According to the updated guidelines, the BISE Lahore Intermediate Part-II Practical Examinations will begin on 10 July 2026. The revised policy will be applicable to practical exams in subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, and Statistics.

Under this new system, examiners at practical examination centres will no longer be responsible for marking the written answer sheets of the practical exams. Instead, these written components will be assessed centrally by the respective education boards, adopting an approach similar to that used in theory examinations. This move is expected to reduce discrepancies in marking and promote uniform evaluation standards across all centres.

Despite this shift, candidates will continue to be evaluated in person at their practical exam centres for laboratory performance, practical notebooks, and oral assessments (viva voce). This ensures that the hands-on and interactive elements of the practical exams remain directly supervised and assessed locally.

Students are advised to prepare diligently for every aspect of the practical examination, which now comprises written answers, laboratory work, notebooks, and viva voce, as all components will contribute to their final scores.

The new marks distribution for the Intermediate Part-II practical exams under this policy has been defined as follows:

  • Physics: Practical Performance, Notebook & Viva – 16 marks; Written Answer Sheet – 14 marks; Total – 30 marks
  • Chemistry: Practical Performance, Notebook & Viva – 14 marks; Written Answer Sheet – 16 marks; Total – 30 marks
  • Biology: Practical Performance, Notebook & Viva – 13 marks; Written Answer Sheet – 17 marks; Total – 30 marks
  • Computer Science: Practical Performance, Notebook & Viva – 26 marks; Written Answer Sheet – 24 marks; Total – 50 marks
  • Statistics: Practical Performance, Notebook & Viva – 20 marks; Written Answer Sheet – 10 marks; Total – 30 marks

This initiative by the Punjab Boards aims to foster a fair and standardized marking process, improving the credibility of practical examination results. It also reflects an ongoing effort to enhance the education system’s efficiency by leveraging centralized evaluation mechanisms.

Students, educators, and examination staff are encouraged to familiarize themselves with these changes ahead of the 2026 examinations to ensure smooth implementation.
