Bitcoin ETFs See $301M Inflows After Two Weeks of Losses

After two consecutive weeks of declines, Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) witnessed a resurgence with net inflows totaling $301 million last week. This marks a shift in investor sentiment following significant outflows in previous weeks.

Shift in Bitcoin ETF Investments

Data from Farside Investors highlights that Bitcoin ETFs endured net outflows of approximately $228 million the week before, and a much larger exit of around $680 million two weeks prior. Since the start of October, total net outflows for these funds have reached about $314 million.

Despite the withdrawal trend late last week, inflows surged earlier between Monday and Wednesday, bringing in $1.08 billion. This inflow coincided with Bitcoin climbing to its weekly peak near $84,777. However, the momentum reversed as Bitcoin prices dropped towards $80,000 on Thursday and Friday, triggering withdrawals of around $774 million from the ETFs.

Investor Behavior Amid Price Swings

Research by market maker DWF Labs revealed that since the launch of spot Bitcoin ETFs in January 2024, investors have typically decreased their holdings during steep Bitcoin price declines of 15% or more. This suggests that rather than using market dips as buying opportunities, ETF investors tend to reduce exposure when markets fall significantly.

Currently, Bitcoin is trading near $80,025, reflecting a 3.3% decline over the past week. Meanwhile, the Crypto Fear & Greed Index also dropped to a neutral score of 50 from 59 the previous week, indicating a cautious market sentiment.

Continued Outflows from Ether ETFs

In contrast to Bitcoin ETFs’ recent inflow, US spot Ether ETFs have sustained their outflow trend, losing roughly $221 million last week alone, marking a fourth straight week of net withdrawals. This illustrates diverging investor confidence between the two leading cryptocurrencies’ fund products.

Sabica Tahira, a cryptocurrency analyst, notes, ‘The return of inflows to Bitcoin ETFs after weeks of losses signals renewed but cautious investor interest.’

Significance for Pakistani Investors

For Pakistani investors looking towards crypto assets, these developments highlight the volatility and behavioral trends in the global digital asset market. The fluctuating nature of ETF flows underscores the importance of cautious and well-informed decision-making, especially considering the complex regulatory environment in Pakistan regarding cryptocurrencies. Understanding international market patterns can assist local investors in navigating crypto investments more prudently.
